Plenty of firsts today on this spectacular hike - our first climb above 5000 feet; our first extended walk on Franconia Ridge, and our first loop hike to include two 4000 footers in the same day.
We began climbing on the Falling Waters trails. For the first 2 miles we passed waterfall after spectacular waterfall. We reached Franconia Ridge trail at Little Haystacks Mountain then traversed the ridge to Lincoln and Lafayette. The ridge walk for 1.6 miles is an incredible walk with continuous 360-degree views. Temperatures were about 50 degrees at the summits and ridge with 15-30 mile hour winds. Incredibly we met up with a woman whose family we encountered earlier this summer on Mt. Liberty.
From Mt. Lafayette we dropped down to the AMC Greenleaf Hut and then followed the Old Bridle Path back to the car.
Distance: 8.8 miles. Climb: 3850 ft. Elevation: Mt. Lafayette 5260 ft. Mt. Lincoln 5089 ft.
